Writers at Woody Point welcomes you all to this beautiful place, tucked amidst the billion-year-old rocks of the Tablelands, and overlooking the majestic scenery of Bonne Bay.

We acknowledge that the land on which we gather each summer to listen to our stories, our music, and to renew friendships and make new ones, is on traditional Mikmaq territory. We gathered at this place, for storytelling across time and history. The western side of Newfoundland’s Great Northern Peninsula is where you’ll find the crossroads of 6,000 years of human history. The bounty of the sea and land drew the Maritime Archaic people, the Dorset people, the Groswater people and the recent Indigenous people here over the centuries.

We acknowledge with respect the diverse histories and cultures of the Beothuk, the Mikmaq, the Maritime Archaic, the Dorset and the Groswater peoples of this place. We also recognize the Indigenous peoples of Labrador and their ancestors.
