Adrian Sutherland

We are so happy to announce that Adrian Sutherland will be joining us this year, all the way from Attawapiskat First Nation on the shores of James Bay.

Adrian is a Juno-nominated singer-songwriter whose most recent album, Precious Diamonds, was produced by friend-of-the-festival Colin Linden.

He is also an author.

In January, Adrian published a memoir: The Work of Our Hands: A Cree Meditation on the Real World.

As his editor Nick Garrison describes him, “Adrian Sutherland is what you hear in his music – some rough edges, but so hauntingly honest it stays with you. His book is like that too. It is an unforgettable song you can’t get out of your head once you’ve heard it.”

In addition to performing his music on Thursday evening, Adrian will be on stage Thursday afternoon at the Heritage Theatre talking to Elamin Abdelmahmoud about his book and about the challenges and joys of life in Attawapiskat.
