A Message from Our Artistic Director, Stephen Brunt

Every once in a while, someone asks how we choose and schedule the authors and musicians for Writers at Woody Point.

What’s the formula?

Well, there isn’t one, at least not on paper. There’s no overarching theme. There’s no rigid set of rules.

Over the years, we have developed a bit of a sixth sense for what makes our festival tick. Bringing wonderfully talented artists to town is certainly part of it. But the feeling we all find so hard to describe is rooted in the way the authors, musicians, hosts and audience react to-and-with each other - sometimes just the way we imagined and sometimes in ways we never could have anticipated.

The process is more alchemy than algebra, and the truth is not everything works out as planned. But that’s what happens when you take a few risks, which we always hope to do.

And once you’ve experienced one of those magical days or nights? As the kids say, IYKYK.

Now, getting ready to announce the line-up for our 23rd festival – hard to believe, isn’t it? – here’s what we can tell you.

Some of the names will be familiar. Some will be brand new.

Some of the events will have a history going right back to the early days of the festival.

And at least one will be unlike anything we’ve done before.

We are so excited to finally be able to share the news we’ve been keeping to ourselves all winter.

And we can’t wait to see you in August.
