Sonic Harvest Sessions returns to the Woody Point Heritage Theatre for two fall weekends of music, stories, and creative risk in the heart of Gros Morne National Park. As we gather here in Woody Point this week for our flagship literary festival, we are thrilled to start sharing what's coming this fall.
Still Stealing Genius: Writers at Sonic Harvest with CBC's East Coast Music Hour
Authors Michael Crummey, Jamie Jackman, Maggie Burton, and Matthew Hollett have been commissioned by CBC's East Coast Music Hour to write a new poem for this project. Each poet is then paired with one Newfoundland musician. Mick Davis, Nico Paulo, Jing Xia, and Mallory Johnson were commissioned to write a song using one of the poems as inspiration.
It is a celebration of creative risk — one Newfoundland writer paired with one Newfoundland musician. The risk? Neither know who their partner is until they are on stage at Woody Point Heritage Theatre. Each pair will be revealed at the moment of performance. The show will be hosted by East Coast Music Hour's Bill Roach.
In 2010 Ron Hynes released his album Stealing Genius, inspired by a writing retreat he took to Woody Point where he wrote songs inspired by beloved Newfoundland poets. This project carries on that tradition.
This concert will be recorded for future broadcast.
